Lipetsk State Technical University

Lipetsk State Technical University (LSTU) was founded in the year of 1956 with only 2 options of specialized training to offer. But the rapid growth of the industrial potential of the Lipetsk region alongside with the development of steel-making and engineering industries made it essential for the highly qualified labor-force to be readily available in these strategic markets.

Today the LSTU is one of the leading higher educational institutions of the Central Black Soil Economic Region of Russia. At present the University has 9 departments with 44 sub-faculties which give professional training to 7500 students. High quality level of education activity is provided by about 600 teachers, more than 300 of them have academic degrees, 12 full members and 9 corresponding members of the Russian and international academies. In September, 2011 LSTU establishes finally two-level system of higher professional education which includes bachelor and master degree programs.

Technical and lab facilities of the University represent a vast complex of educational and production structures with developed network of engineering services and recreational areas improvements. It incorporates 14 buildings, two training sports complexes, open sports buildings, two dormitories, student's canteen and health-improving sports centre.

The University has well-equipped educational laboratory facilities allowing it to train practical specialists who can easily adapt to various conditions of labor market. There are 70 000 square meters of laboratory areas. The total area of the University's buildings is more than 102 000 square meters. Its staff includes 700 workers.

There is a library within the University which is one of the biggest in Lipetsk and serves the purpose of a guidance centre for other universities and colleges. Its library stock includes about 900 000 printed units. The library serves more than 20 000 readers every year. There is a modern well-equipped printing plant producing more than 200 scientific and reference literature titles every year.

The sphere of information technologies and software is being actively developed at our University. Each faculty has its own computer class and it allows providing every teacher and every student with computer aids. Computer work places are connected to local area network with Internet access.

In LSTU like in any other University studies don't occupy student's entire time. They gladly participate in various recreational and outdoor activities. Concerts and shows arranged and conducted by the students themselves take place in the University Convention Centre which gives room to 1100 people.

Lipetsk is a an administrative, industrial, cultural and resort centre of the Lipetsk region, located in the central part of the European territory of Russia on the banks of the Voronezh River in the Don basin, 438 kilometers southeast of Moscow. The climate is moderately - continental with moderately cold winter and warm summer.

Lipetsk region is one of most successful and dynamically developing areas of the modern Russia. The principal industries of Lipetsk include ferrous metallurgy with one of the world’s largest steel producers (Novolipetsk steel plant, NLMK), electric power industry with "Indesit" company producing refrigerators and washing machines, machinery, metalworking, machine tools, engines, chemicals, food, and clothing. The LSTU has essential influence on the development of science, education, industry and culture in the region and facilitates the forming of the Lipetsk special economic zone.
